How to Brief a Japanese UGC Shoot for Mobile Game Ads

To brief a Japanese UGC shoot, provide the Japanese dialogue, pronunciation notes, performance direction, cast preferences, filming setting, output format, advertising platforms, usage territory and period, and preferred delivery date. A clear brief helps the production team confirm casting, filming, usage permissions, and the final quotation before the shoot.

What Should You Include in a Japanese UGC Video Brief?

Tell Virtual In what your overseas creative team already has and what you need us to produce in Japan. A script ready for filming needs a different scope from a concept that still needs dialogue adaptation and editing.

  • Game or app name
  • Production type: raw footage or edited video
  • Number of scripts
  • Japanese dialogue
  • Pronunciation notes
  • Performance direction
  • Reference videos you may share
  • Cast preferences
  • Indoor or outdoor setting
  • Aspect ratio
  • Required file format
  • Advertising platforms
  • Usage territories
  • Usage period
  • Preferred delivery date

1. Separate Production Instructions from Japanese Dialogue

Write the direction for the production team separately from the words the performer should say. Label both clearly, including which performer speaks each line in a conversation. This makes it easier to discuss delivery without accidentally treating an instruction as dialogue.

Production instruction

Speak directly to the camera with an excited but natural reaction.

Japanese dialogue

「このステージ、思ったより難しい!」

Meaning: “This stage is harder than I expected!”

Our simple shoot-only plans use a client-supplied Japanese script. If your script still needs writing, translation, or adaptation, include that requirement in your enquiry so it can be scoped separately.

2. Add Pronunciation Notes for Game Names and Character Names

Specify how to read game titles, character names, invented terms, foreign words, numbers, and abbreviations in Japanese. A spelling alone may leave more than one possible reading.

Add kana readings beside unfamiliar words or share an authorized audio reference. Tell us whether an abbreviation is spoken letter by letter, read as a word, or replaced with a Japanese phrase. Keep these notes beside the relevant line.

3. Explain the Performance You Need

Describe the intended reaction and its intensity: calm, excited, surprised, frustrated, or playful. Then describe the format: direct-to-camera delivery, a conversation, or a reaction to a phone.

Point to a specific moment in a reference video and explain what matters—pace, facial reaction, a pause, or the relationship between performers. Share only material you own or have permission to use. Cast availability and the final direction are confirmed for your project.

4. Choose Shoot-Only or Full Production

Virtual In offers both production paths. Decide whether your editing team needs live-action footage or an edited video delivered to an agreed specification.

5. Confirm Advertising Usage Before Filming

Include the platforms, territories, and usage duration you need, and say whether the files are for organic posts, paid advertising, or both. Explain any plans to re-edit the footage or create derivative versions.

Paid shoot-only starting prices include tax and paid advertising usage rights for the agreed project scope. Platforms, territories, duration, and performer likeness permissions are confirmed in the quotation and project agreement before production. Use the brief to raise these questions early; do not assume permission for every use.

6. Indoor or Outdoor Filming

Virtual In has Japanese talent and company-managed furnished interiors. Our published samples also include an outdoor interview-style scene with two performers. Watch the indoor sample and outdoor sample to explain the setting you have in mind.

For an outdoor brief, describe the location, schedule, and any weather or permission requirements. We will confirm feasibility and the production scope before booking. A published outdoor sample does not establish that your requested outdoor shoot is included in a simple raw-footage starting price.
